East Durham Community Transport
The Challenge
EDCT are one of the more progressive and forward thinking Community Transport operators, provided self drive hire of minibuses to community groups, a travel club for local residents and various training products to assist users and other transport customers. Following cuts to local authority budgets and other funding providers, EDCT lost nearly all the funding it has received to sustain it’s operations of supporting community groups who need transport to carry out their work. Network Creative have been appointed to carry out a review of activities and the local market place to enable the organization to move towards being self-sustaining, with a remit of not reducing staff or activities.
A study of the local transport market was undertaken to look at the current provision, the rates charge, any gaps that could be filled and looking at any other opportunities. In addition, each area of activity was studied with a view to being able to increase the revenue in that area. A number of solutions to help towards sustainability are currently being implemented Performance measures have also been undertaken and Network Creative will continue to work with the committee over the coming months in ensuring that the solutions currently being implemented are working and to advise on further action should this not be the case.
Conclusion
This work is still very much in progress, with solutions only just being implemented or developed. Further updates will be posted as this develops.
